Asked for shady spot; there were hardly any trees covering our area. Check in girl was unfriendly and mumbled. Rest rooms were clean. Probably will not come here again.
We camped in woods; site was good. Bathrooms very clean. However, due to a lightning strike, we were without power for about ten hours with no running water! In order to go to the bathroom, we had to drive five miles to Wal-mart!. Besides the gorge, there is not much to do. Town is boring with a lot of boarded up stores. Also, campground is boring with no activities.
I have been camping for over 25 years and this campground was one of the best we ever stayed in. It is extremely clean. The bike route that goes through the campground was great...goes through woods and hooks up with the county bike trail. We used the trolleys to go to Lake George Village without the hassle of driving there and parking. It is a bit pricey, but I believe in the motto "you get what you pay for". We will definitely be back again.
This place was disgusting!!!! No garbage pick up, so it literally stunk. Bathrooms were filthy. How dare this place call itself a resort! Also, this place was out in nowhere, so it took awhile to get somewhere. Web site is grossly overrated.
Camp Chautauqua is very clean although the quality has been declining in recent years. This place used to be strictly for camping, but now much of the land is rented out to cottages. The outdoor pool is heated; the store is located at the bottom of a steep hill which makes carrying purchases back to camp difficult. The "game room" is almost completely empty.
